Objective of the Position
The Operations Manager will manage and control operations and maintenance of multiple performance material plants at the Dahej site, ensuring excellence in safety, quality, cost, productivity, reliability, and statutory compliance across the cluster.
Key Responsibilities & Job Description
General Management
- Overall responsibility for Production, Maintenance, EHS, Quality, and Cost for the Performance Materials Cluster
- Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory and legal requirements
- Drive energy conservation, waste minimization, and resource optimization initiatives
- Implement A-PMA initiatives as per RBU guidelines
- Monitor performance of PEOL, PESOL, System House, MDI plants, TPU shed, tank farms, and related areas
- Ensure preventive maintenance planning and execution
- Meet customer and business requirements with cost-effective manufacturing
People Management
- Develop succession planning for the operations team
- Lead hiring, talent development, and performance management
- Coach and mentor deputies and functional reportees
- Promote engagement and teamwork across the PM Cluster
Safety, EHS & Housekeeping
- Implement Responsible Care Management Systems across PM plants
- Ensure compliance with local, international, and BASF safety standards
- Enforce Permit-to-Work and process safety systems
- Lead emergency response activities during general shift hours
- Monitor EHS statutory compliance and audit actions
- Establish preventive safety guidelines and hazard mitigation measures
Customer & Performance Focus
- Monitor plant utilization and downtime using AE.net (Asset Effectiveness)
- Track OpEx savings through OpEx Planner
- Ensure compliance with Integrated Management Systems
- Improve overall operational efficiency and customer satisfaction
Educational & Experience Requirements
Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Engineering
Experience
15+ years of experience in chemical / petrochemical plant operations
