Process & Technical Leadership: Lead the Technical Services team and act as the single point of accountability for process performance across the plant. Drive root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions for major process deviations, quality excursions, and plant upsets. Own yield improvement, energy optimization, and de-bottlenecking programs, tracking savings against annual targets. Review and approve mass/energy balances, P&IDs, PFDs, and hydraulic calculations for new projects, modifications, and revamps. Lead process hazard analysis (HAZOP/HAZID) participation and ensure closure of process safety recommendations.
Process Excellence & Compliance: Drive new product introduction, scale-up, technology transfer, and process validation from pilot to commercial scale. Prepare and review SOPs, BMRs, validations, and process documentation; ensure GMP, cGMP, EHS, and ISO compliance. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001/14001/45001 and other applicable quality, environmental, and safety management systems. Support audits, change control, deviation, CAPA and continuous improvement initiatives.
Projects, Collaboration & Performance: Liaise with R&D, licensors, and consultants on process improvement, capacity enhancement, and new technology adoption. Prepare Basic Engineering Packages (BEP) and provide technical inputs through detailed engineering and commissioning. Build, mentor, and appraise a team of process/technical services engineers; develop technical competency across the team. Prepare and present capital improvement proposals (CAPEx) with technical and financial justification to management. Own plant-level KPI reporting – yield, consumption norms, downtime, quality complaints, and cost per tonne. Coordinate cross-functionally with Maintenance, QA/QC, EHS, and Production to ensure integrated plant performance.
Key Skills Required: Strong fundamentals of Chemical Engineering + Fermentation / Bioprocess. Hands-on experience in Biotech / API / Chemical plant operations. Knowledge of P&ID, Process Scale-up, Tech Transfer, HAZOP. GMP knowledge, Documentation, QMS, ISO & EHS compliance. Data analysis, Process calculations, MS Office, AutoCAD basic preferred. Leadership, problem solving, analytical thinking & cross-functional collaboration.
