Position: Deputy Manager - HSE Design
Work Location: Mumbai, India
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct HSE Design activities per contract scope standards within budget and schedule
- Provide HSE inputs to ensure plant design meets project HSE requirements
- Participate in cross-functional and inter-office meetings for HSE Design input
- Support construction and commissioning field queries
- Develop work procedures and in-house calculations with Department Head
- Promote and implement design improvements
- Complete project design activities within allotted manhours and schedule
- Monitor manhours consumed
- Act as Lead Engineer for proposals or projects when nominated
- As Lead Engineer, prepare HSEIA Plan and Fortnight Reports for progress tracking
- Visit design centers to expedite or resolve HSE Design issues
- Maintain cordial relations with discipline Engineers across work centers
- Understand contract scope and applicable standards
- Organize and participate in HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, SIL, PHSER reviews
- Conduct HAZID, ENVID, audits, and specialist studies if required
- Perform and review design calculations with Technical Authorities
- Own assigned project documents until completion
- Coordinate HSE requirements and vendor information across disciplines
- Manage team of Engineers and Designers
- Prepare/review safety studies, firewater demand, and hydraulic calculations
- Prepare/review Firewater system PFD, P&ID, and datasheets
- Prepare/review loss prevention layouts and calculations
- Prepare/review firefighting and safety equipment specifications
- Prepare/review inquiry requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and purchase requisitions
- Support procurement in finalizing HSE studies and equipment
- Liaise with vendors for timely and accurate document delivery
- Collaborate with third-party consultants for study reports
- Maintain records per quality procedure (self-check, error count, resolutions, etc.)
- Produce calculations, drawings, sketches, bills of materials, manhours for proposals
- Attend meetings with internal teams, vendors, subcontractors, and clients
- Continuously review 3D model for firefighting equipment placement and fireproofing envelope
- Verify F&G detector accessibility and orientation in 3D model
- Coordinate blast load and PFP requirements with Civil Engineers
- Review process and instrumentation philosophies for process safety
- Provide HSE inputs to other engineers and ensure incorporation in design

- Inputs to ESD, isolation, draining, and F&G philosophy
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Minimum 8 years in risk & safety engineering or 10 years in loss prevention engineering
- Experience in consultancy, FEED, or EPC roles in oil & gas, refinery, or petrochemical industry
