Job Overview – Drug Discovery Scientist
Job Title: Scientist – Chemistry (Drug Discovery)
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Job Location: Vadodara, Gujarat, India
Reporting To: Head – Drug Discovery
Key Responsibilities
- The successful candidates will contribute to multidisciplinary discovery teams by applying innovative synthetic chemistry, analytical techniques, and data analysis to the design and synthesis of drug candidates and intermediates
- Design, plan, and execute complex, multi-step organic synthesis involving macrocyclic peptides, constrained peptides, bRo5 chemical space, degraders, molecular glues, and small-molecule and peptides
- Develop practical, executable synthetic routes, including troubleshooting and optimization of challenging transformations
- Apply deep knowledge of organic reaction mechanisms to enable efficient and innovative chemistry solutions
- Create or adapt new synthetic methodologies as needed to address novel chemical challenges
- Independently drive chemistry efforts while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary project teams and being a mentor to junior scientists
- 4 Maintain high scientific rigor, documentation standards, and data integrity
- Stay current with relevant scientific literature and emerging trends to inform project strategy
- Present results clearly and effectively in peer-directed meetings and project discussions
- Manage and oversee external collaborations with CROs and academic partners
- Critically evaluate project risks, bottlenecks, and resource constraints, drive Go/No-Go decisions
- Foster a culture of scientific excellence, agility, collaboration, and innovation
- Ensure high-quality documentation, electronic lab notebooks, and meaningful contributions to patents and publications.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Product Chemistry, or related field
- 15+ years of industry experience in drug discovery.
- Strong desire to grow as a medicinal chemist while maintaining a passion for organic chemistry and the courage to challenge conventional wisdom
- Expert understanding of organic reaction mechanisms and designing efficient synthetic routes
- Deep knowledge of contemporary synthetic methods with creativity to develop new approaches
- Proven ability to independently design and execute complex experiments
- Demonstrated balance of rational design principles with experimental creativity
- Track record of high experimental productivity, innovation, and effective dissemination of scientific ideas and strong command of the scientific literature
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate and work independently in multidisciplinary teams
